My First Springdell
Experience

My first experience at Springdell farm was probably about
2-3 years ago at the Wayland Summer Farmers Market. I was a farmers market newbie and visiting
the market with one of my friends for the first time. She was telling me about this steak she
bought and how delicious it was. I was
not really a steak eater at the time, but she was so excited about this steak,
I figured I would try it. I remember
buying steak tips and eggs. It was the
first time I had seen an assortment of egg colors including blue eggs. I went home and not knowing how to cook
steak, I put some salt and pepper on it and put it on a grill pan. It wasn’t cooking all the way so I stuck it
in the oven for a few minutes to make sure it was cooked all the way (at the
time I ate my steak well done). I took
it out of the oven and cut it up and ate it.
I couldn’t believe what I had been missing for so many years! I learned why the quality of the meat is so
important. I knew I had to go back for
more.
Springdell farm is about 40-45 minutes from my house. I realized when I had gone back for my second
steak that I pass the farm on the way to my Dad’s house. Since Springdell farm no longer goes to any
farmers market near my house, I will often go on the way to my Dad’s to stock
up on meat or sometimes even send him to pick up an order. This year for Christmas, I took a detour on
my way home from work to pick up some ground beef and sausage to make meatballs
for Christmas Eve dinner. I even had
some left over sausage to put in my sauce that I made during this crazy snow
storm. It is worth a Sunday drive to go
to the farm stand and buy a great product!
I enjoy going to the farm stand in the summer to pick up
some fruits and vegetables along with some meat and checking out the festive
decor. This past fall, I was approached
by one of the roosters just roaming around the farm stand. My steak grilling has come a long way since I
threw it in oven and I have even been trying other cuts of meat the past few
years. I tell everyone about Springdell farm
and often mention it in my own blog.
This year for my 30th birthday, my Dad and his wife bought all
the meat from the farm stand to make a burger bar.
Thanks for all that you do!
